ON THEIR third attempt, Slovak police have managed to deliver a summons to former prime minister Vladimír Meeiar to report for questioning regarding the financing of his Elektra villa, which he bought and refurbished for an alleged Sk41 million ($860,000) after losing power in 1998 elections.
On May 31, police were turned away from Meeiar's HZDS party headquarters in Bratislava and were subsequently unable to deliver the summons to Meeiar's permanent address in Bratislava or to Elektra.
Officers finally tracked Meeiar down in Košice to deliver the summons, but the former PM said he doesn't know if he has time to answer.
In 1999, police blew down the front door of Elektra to bring Meeiar in for questioning on the payment of salary bonuses to members of his cabinet, after the former leader refused to obey a summons.
