The Slovak Armed Forces celebrated Armed Forces Day on Tuesday, September 22, by organising events in various Slovak towns and cities, including sports, concerts and competitions. Soldiers on this occasion traditionally organise displays of dog-training, weaponry and equipment, along with a parade by an honour guard.
Visitors interested in studying at army schools or in military service can obtain information from recruiting centres. September 22 was chosen in connection to the revolutionary year of 1848, when the suppressed Slovak nation opposed the power of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Armed Forces spokesman Milan Varga told the TASR newswire.
