The MEMO media monitoring project suggests that Slovak electronic media have devoted considerable attention to the Yugoslav crisis and that the state-run Slovak Radio and private Radio Twist have provided the most comprehensive coverage of the crisis. During a 28-day monitoring period, both radio stations devoted a total of over four hours of airtime to Kosovo, which is 8.5 minutes a day. The taxpayer-driven Slovak Television covered Kosovo 2.5 hours, the private VTV dealt with the issue for 1.5 hours, and private TV Markíza covered Kosovo about 70 minutes.
MEMO suggests that the most of critical remarks were directed towards NATO bombings, along with the Yugoslav leadership. Information on refugees was mostly neutral.
Among depictions of political parties, the Slovak National Party was shown as the most critical, surpassing the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia's criticism several times. The SNS was the only party that expressed support for Yugoslav leaders.
The Cabinet was shown as critical of the Yugoslav political leadership. The governing Slovak Democratic Coalition (SDK) made mostly positive statements about NATO air strikes. The Party of the Democratic Left (SDĽ), however, leaned towards the SNS in its reactions to the crisis several times.
