A FOUR-METRE tall bronze statue that stands as a memorial to a horrendous Nazi massacre in Slovakia has been vandalised for the second time in a year. The statue of a kneeling lady in the central Slovak town of Nemecká, which means 'German' in Slovak, had its left hand sawed off April 10. Police say they have no idea who the vandals are and are assessing the damage.
The bronze statue, which is a memorial to a brutal wartime massacre of the people of Nemecká by German troops, has been attacked before. In June last year two men attempted to steal the statue using a tractor. The statue was so badly damaged in the attack that town authorities were unsure if they would be able to repair it.
