Peter Šťastný was born in 1956 in Bratislava. He earned fame as an ice hockey star, representing Czechoslovakia, Canada (where he immigrated) and Slovakia. He was the second most productive NHL player in the 1980s after Wayne Gretzky. From 2002 to 2005 he served as the general manager of the Slovak national hockey team and since 2004 he has been representing Slovakia in the European Parliament, where he has served as vice-chairman of the Delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly and as a member of the Delegation for Relations with Israel and the Committee on International Trade.
Political affiliation: Slovak Democratic and Christian Union – SDKÚ (member of the European People’s Party and European Democrats in the EP)
