A first-degree (least serious) alert is in place for the regions of Banská Bystrica, Trenčín, Žilina, Košice and Prešov, the Slovak Hydro-meterological Institute (SHMÚ) reported on August 10.
In these regions, ground frost may appear between 1:00 and 7:00 on Friday. Even southern districts of these regions may see temperatures close to the ground falling to -2 degrees Celsius. “Such ground frost represents a potential danger for thermophilic plants (such as grapes, peppers and other vegetables),” SHMÚ cautioned, as quoted by the TASR newswire.
