Meteorologists issue warnings against extreme heat

Meteorologists expect that Thursday, August 9, will be one of the hottest days of this week. As a result, they issued a 2^nd-degree warning for several districts where the temperature might be as high as 35-36 Celsius degrees.

“Such temperatures are rare in the given season and area,” the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) stated on its website, as quoted by the TASR newswire, adding that there is a high probability that these weather conditions will have a negative impact on some people’s health.

The 2^nd-degree warning was issued for the Bratislava, Nitra and Trnava Regions, as well as the districts of Lučenec, Revúca, Rimavská Sobota, Veľký Krtíš, Myjava and Nové Mesto nad Váhom, particularly between 14:00 and 17:00. At the same time, it issued a 1^st-degree warning for several districts in the Košice and Prešov Regions, where the temperature might be as high as 33-34 Celsius degrees.

The hot weather will continue on August 10. For now, SHMÚ has issued a 2^nd-degree warning for the southern districts of Trnava, Nitra, Banská Bystrica and Košice Regions. The 1^st-degree warning was issued for Bratislava Region and northern districts of the Trnava, Nitra, Banská Bystrica, and Košice Regions, and eastern districts of the Prešov Region.
