Michal Sýkora was re-elected chairman of the Association of Slovak Towns and Villages (ZMOS) during their 17th convention on April 26.
Sýkora’s main goals for his next term are to maintain the current level of development and stability in local politics and to support the decentralization of power from national to local level.
Unlike past ZMOS conventions, which were marked by disagreements and criticism of the government’s handling of the impacts of local administration reforms, the convention this year was quite clam with only eight delegates speaking in the discussion.
Some delegates, however, did call for changes to the Local Elections Act and requested better promotion of ZMOS activities in the media.
