Karol Mičieta will remain rector of Comenius University in Bratislava, the oldest and largest university in Slovakia.
The incumbent rector received the most votes among three candidates for the post, 40 out of 63. His competitors were Peter Labaš, the outgoing dean of the Medical School (who got 10 votes) and Jozef Čentéš, the general-prosecutor-elect who was never appointed to this position (with 12 votes), according to the Sme daily.
Mičieta was elected already in the first round of the election on November 11, by the Academic Senate of Comenius University in Bratislava. New term for the re-elected rector begins on February 1, 2015 and will last until January 31, 2019. The elected nominee still needs to be appointed into
office by the Slovak president, the SITA newswire wrote.
Of the 63 members of the academic senate who took part in the election of the rector, 62 who cast their votes. In order to be elected rector in the first round, a candidate needs three-fifths of the votes, meaning 38.
