SLOVAKIA'S Finance Minister Ivan Mikloš received an honour from the Taxpayers Association of Europe (TAE). The award, presented in Brussels on July 12, recognizes Mikloš' efforts in implementing reforms in Slovakia, the TASR news wire wrote.
The main reason for the honour, awarded annually by TAE, is Slovakia's tax reform. But the association also expressed appreciation for his "courageous reforms in the field of the social system and the labour market".
"The result of the reforms is that Slovakia has proven exemplary in terms of its readiness for EU membership and the challenges of the 21st century. The reforms created conditions for higher growth, employment and prosperity in Slovakia," association Chairman Rolf von Hohenhau said.
According to von Hohenhau, Slovakia is a "positive European example" of how to respond to growing economic competition. Only the competition of tax systems can guarantee lower taxes in the interest of all citizens of Europe, he added.
