František Mikloško is the official candidate of the Conservative Democrats of Slovakia (KDS) for the post of the Slovak president, KDS representatives told a news conference on July 29.
Vladimír Palko, who was elected party leader following its registration last week, said that the flag of Christian and conservative policy lay on the floor and everybody hesitated to pick it up.
"Mikloško is picking it up," Palko said.
Palko called Mikloško someone who is able to recall the truth at the right moment.
"The Slovak president should be a man with a life story and we have not yet had anyone like that," Palko said.
He reminded journalists of the fact that Mikloško secretly organised meetings of the Catholic Church in Slovakia for 20 years, organised the Candlelit Demonstration, was one of the men of November 1989, was a former Speaker of Parliament, and was one of the pillars of the fight against Mečiarism.
Mikloško will join the presidential campaign with three slogans: "Political Idealism Against Political Opportunism"; "Political Memory Against Political Populism"; and "Political Memory Against Political Phobias." SITA
