The Slovak language will be taught at schools for ethnic minorities at a level that will ensure that the pupils will master the language, Education Minister Ján Mikolaj said on April 17 in Bratislava, the TASR newswire wrote.
Mikolaj, who is an appointee of the Slovak National Party (SNS), was speaking about changes to the Education Act currently being discussed.
He assured that schools will design cirricula, subject to approval by the ministry, that will offer an equal amount of classes in Slovak and the language of the respective ethnic minority, despite rumours to the contrary.
He also flatly denied claims that the SNS made concessions on the Education Act in exchange for support from the ethnic-Hungarian SMK party on the ratification of the Lisbon Treay last week. TASR
