SLOVAKIA’s two military intelligence services will be merged as of January 2013 based on an amendment to the law on military intelligence passed by parliament on July 25.
The new unit, to be called Military Intelligence, will merge the Military Defence Service (VOS), a counter-intelligence unit, and the Military Intelligence Service (VSS) and will have a single director, the SITA newswire reported.
Opposition MP Martin Fedor claimed in the parliamentary debate that merging the two military intelligence services will not save Slovakia any money and that it is possible that the combined service will cost the taxpayers even more than currently, SITA reported.
