Minister consults on school reform

EDUCATION Minister Martin Fronc is launching meetings with teachers, parents and experts in order to prepare an educational reform package for primary and secondary schools, the TASR news agency reported.

The minister says, however, that he will not submit a new law for approval until the political situation in the country has stabilized.

The legislation on education and training has been amended 15 times since it came into force in 1984.

Based on the slogan "Let's teach ourselves to teach - we are learning for life", the reform should mean less learning by rote. Teaching will also focus on the relationships between various branches of knowledge. Greater attention will be paid to both gifted and special needs pupils.
