THE DEFENCE Ministry was forced to cancel a tender for the purchase of 300 off-road vehicles following an inspection of the process by the Public Procurement Office.
The procurement authority found discrepancies in the criteria for evaluating the offers, the daily Pravda wrote.
The Defence Ministry itself also initiated an inspection of the tender by its internal controlling body. However, the authorities did not say whether anyone would be held responsible, nor whether a new tender would be announced.
The police are also investigating the tender but at this point refused to provide any details of the process.
The tender for the purchase of the 300 vehicles, which drew interest from 22 companies, was stopped even before the bids were submitted. The army intends to replace their old Russian-made UAZ vehicles.
Some members of the parliamentary defence security committee also questioned the course of the tender.
