Ministry flouts public tender law

THE INTERIOR Ministry has been fined Sk12 million (€310,000) as a sanction for failing to put out for public tender the purchase of firefighting vehicles worth Sk200 million (€5.18 million), the daily Hospodárske noviny wrote.

The ministry bought the vehicles directly from the Stražan company without announcing a public tender.

According the Public Procurement Authority (ÚVO) the ministry did not comply with the law; it therefore imposed the fine.

The fine is the highest yet issued for non-compliance of the public tender rules.
