Over 14,800 jobs are threatened in Slovakia due to the global financial crisis, according to the Economy Ministry.

In comments following talks of the ministry’s monitoring committee on January 15, the chairman of the committee and head of the Economy Ministry's Strategy Section, Vojtech Ferencz, said "Since December 18, when information on 9,300 endangered jobs was published, this figure has grown by 5,500," the SITA newswire reported.

He also said that Sony Slovakia was officially withdrawing its application for state aid for the second stage of its development. He added that the monitoring committee was not satisfied that the Finance Ministry had failed to submit an analysis of a potential shortening of time for refunds of excess VAT paid on inputs from sixty to thirty days. "The Monitoring committee adopted further proposals for new measures that we want to publish in two weeks after their detailed analysis," Ferencz said. SITA
