MIROSLAV Pikuš has become the new director of the dominant Slovak power producer, Slovenské elektrárne. He replaces Miroslav Rapšík, who stepped down based on mutual agreement with Economy Minister Jirko Malchárek on January 23.

Also after agreement with the minister, a member of the board of directors and SE economic director Miloš Šujanský stepped down from his post. He will be replaced by Andrej Dušan Lipták, said Economy Minister spokesman Robert Beňo.

The changes come following the dismissal of former Economy Minister Pavol Rusko on conflict of interest allegations, and the appointment of Malchárek, a defector from Rusko's ANO party.

Cabinet appointments in Slovakia are traditionally followed by staff changes at key institutions under ministry control.
