Monday morning shooting spree in Bratislava claims six lives, nineteen injured

A shooting spree in a residential area of Devínska Nová Ves in the western part of Bratislava on Monday morning August 30 has claimed six lives, the SITA newswire reported.

A shooting spree in a residential area of Devínska Nová Ves in the western part of Bratislava on Monday morning August 30 has claimed six lives, the SITA newswire reported.

According to information provided by Dominika Šulková from the Emergency Medical Service, four women and two men were shot to death. The shooting started at 10:00 and an additional nineteen persons were injured, including a three-year old child.

A local public radio warning system warned people not to go outside or look out of their windows. The routes of public transport buses were also modified.

“We had verified information from the police, so we warned people,” Vladimir Mráz, the mayor of Devínska Nova Ves told the SITA newswire.

Thus far, SITA reported that the shooter may be an elderly man (possibly with an accomplice) who first shot down a whole family and then continued on with the shooting. Police have closed off the area and are investigating.
