The British Rover and South Korean Hyundai auto makers are reported to be considering factory investments in Slovakia following the decision of France's Peugeot to build a 700 million euro factory near Trnava.
Rover, which is now in talks with Poland over a possible factory near Warsaw, says it may decide to come to Slovakia instead with a $250 million investment if its Polish deal does not come through by February 14.
South Korean parliamentary speaker Park Kwan-Jong has already contacted Slovak President Rudolf Schuster regarding Hyundai's interest in building a factory in central Europe, drawing an invitation to visit Slovakia and examine possible sites.
Following the Peugeot decision in mid-January 2003, Slovakia is set to move into the top-five auto exporters per capita worldwide once the factory comes on line in 2006.
