AFTER South Korean tyre maker Hankook Tire's announcement of a massive investment near the city of Levice (Nitra region), other foreign firms are set to invest in the district's industrial park, the TASR news wire wrote.
Nefab Packaging Slovakia and Globo Eastern Europe have signed contracts to build plants employing 130 people and 70 people respectively in the nearby 49.8-hectare Gena industrial park, said Levice Mayor Stefan Mišák.
Nefab Packaging Slovakia, a subsidiary of Sweden's Nefab Aktiebolag, will manufacture packaging materials for the electro-engineering and automotive industries. Globo Eastern Europe, an Austrian-Slovak joint venture, will begin building a factory to manufacture lighting equipment this July.
Steel Strips Wheels Ltd, an Indian company, has signed a letter of intent to build a factory employing 350 staff manufacturing car wheels from 2006.
City officials are now in talks with an Italian light-engineering firm and a Turkish firm wanting to produce core magnets.
Hankook Tire is planning to launch tyre production in 2008 in a plant employing 1,600 people. An additional 1,500 jobs are expected to be created via subcontractors.
