Barbara Písecká, spokeswoman for the TV news channel TA3, confirmed to the SITA newswire that several reporters have decided to leave the station because of a new work system for the television station which Martin Halanda, the new Deputy Director General in charge of programming, introduced on May 9.
"The personnel issue was part of the planned changes. After introducing this system, several reporters and editors terminated their cooperation with TA3," Halanda announced in a published statement. According to Písecká, the station will not provide any further information.
On May 9 the Sme daily reported that several staff members decided to leave TA3 after Halanda proposed changes to the services roster together with personnel changes. According to an internal source at the TV broadcaster, four international desk editors and four economic editors are leaving.
The news channel had already seen some crucial changes in its management this year when editor-in-chief Richard Dírer, together with his deputy Nora Gubková, left at the end of March, followed by some other employees. Halanda had previously worked for TA3 in 2007 and 2008 but later became the spokesman for the Cargo Slovakia freight railway company.
