GLOBAL Garden Products (GGP), an Italian company manufacturing mowing machines in the northern Slovak town of Poprad, plans to double its production in Slovakia within the next two years, the Hospodárske Noviny daily wrote in mid April.

“This year we plan to manufacture 700,000 mowing machines and increase production to one million next year,” said Elena Storari from GGP, as quoted by the daily. GGP manufactures mowing machines under the brand names Stiga, Castelgarden, Alpina and Mountfield.

Over the last year the Poprad-based plant manufactured nearly 500,000 units. Storari explained that production in Poprad will rise due to the transfer of manufacturing from other European plants and expected higher demand from customers.

Apart from Slovakia, GGP has two plants in Italy, one in Sweden and another in China. Investments in the Poprad plant should be significant as the money will flow into new models and innovations in the production process.
