During the three weeks more than 400,000 lessons were not taught, according to the strike’s organiser, the Initiative of Slovak Teachers (ISU).
Thanks to the strike the problems in education became an important social and political topic. The expert public agrees it is necessary to solve them, Vladimír Crmoman of ISU told the TASR newswire.
“Despite many people opposing the strike due to its informality, we think that the fact that teachers joined the strike on a voluntary basis was a key moment that speaks about the urgency of problems in the Slovak education system,” Crmoman added, as quoted by TASR.

As many as 17 protests and marches took place during the strike, while the live chains were created in 17 towns. About 12,000 people attended these events, Crmoman said.
