At the end of June, 71,700 jobseekers in Slovakia have been without work for four years or longer, accounting for 17 percent of the unemployed registered at labour offices.
More than half of the unemployed who have been out of work for four years are from the Prešov and Košice Regions in eastern Slovakia. The number of long-term unemployed registered for more than one year is 215,600 - 51.6 percent of all unemployed, according to statistics from the Central Office for Labour, Social Affairs and Family cited by SITA newswire.
Labour offices in the districts of Rimavská Sobota, Revúca, and Rožňava are struggling most with long-term unemployment. In these districts, the rate of people who have been out of work more than 48 months is more 30 percent of the total number of registered unemployed.
