HZDS head Vladimír Mečiar has the support of 80-90 percent of party district assemblies, said HZDS spokesperson Zdenka Kramplová on April 23.

Kramplová said the announced candidacy of Viliam Veteška (party vice-chairman) for the post of the party chairman has been supported by only four districts out of Slovakia's 79.

Veteška's candidacy has been supported by HZDS district assemblies in Pezinok (Bratislava Region), Púchov (Trenčín Region), Považská Bystrica (Trenčín Region) and Žilina (Žilina Region).

District assemblies in Piešťany (Trnava Region), Trnava (Trnava Region) and Nové Mesto nad Váhom (Trenčín region) are in favour of changing HZDS party structure and making Mečiar the honorary chairman and Veteška the executive chairman.

Kramplová said that only three of the 79 districts have yet to decide on the matter.
