MP Radoslav Procházka of the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) told the TASR newswire on May 28 that he has no intention of running for the post of party vice-chair or any other leadership post at the upcoming KDH congress in June, adding that the decision of vice-chairman Daniel Lipšic to leave the party was not convincing for him even though he understands the reasons for the action.
On May 27 Lipšic stated that the lack of vision within KDH, along with recent scandals in parties of the right, was his reason for resignation from the KDH.
"More than in vision and dreams, I'm interested in practical ways of helping people who gave me the mandate. The thing that I most care about is what I can do for them. I think that what they expect of me is to be an advocate of Christian democratic policies in parliament," Procházka stated, as quoted by TASR.
KDH leader Ján Figeľ told a press conference on May 28 that the party is disappointed by the departures of Daniel Lipšic and Jana Žitňanská after receiving the voters’ confidence just two months ago, prior to the general election and after the March 10 vote.
Even though not approving of the resignation, Figeľ thanked Lipšic for the work he has done as a party member for the past 13 years and did not rule out future cooperation. Asked whether Lipšic and Žitňanská should give up their seats in the parliament, Figeľ said that if he were them, he would, adding that several people in the party's leadership pointed to the fact that the former justice minister and MP Žitňanská got their mandates while members of KDH.
TASR wrote that it has been constitutionally established that a MP’s mandate belongs to the individual and not the party.
