According to monitoring by the NGO Obcianske Oko, absenteeism in the new parliament is sharply down from the 1998-2002 legislature with the exception of former PM Vladimír Mečiar, who has missed 72 percent of sessions.
Overall, MPs for Mečiar's opposition HZDS party were absent the most often in November and December, for an average of 32 per cent of sittings; MPs for Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda's SDKÚ party were the most diligent, showing an average 2.7 per cent absentee rate.
