All Members of Parliament (MPs) supported the recommendation apart from the ruling Christian Democratic Movement (KDH), and the independent MP Ivan Šimko.

KDH chairman Pavel Hrušovský said that instead of EU membership, Turkey should be granted a status of "privileged partnership", in line with the suggestion of the European Christian Democrat parties.
