TriGranit corporation plans to build a new entertainment and relaxation zone south of Bratislava which will offer its visitors not only various activities but also gambling opportunities. The investment is projected at €1.5 billion over five years. The 30-hectare site is adjacent to the districts of Petržalka and Jarovce at the intersection of the D2 and D4 highways that lead to Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest and Prague. The project was announced by TriGranit director Simon Balley, according to the SITA newswire.
The decisive factor in choosing Slovakia was the fact that the country is in the Schengen area and a member of the eurozone.
The overall built-up area of the multifunctional complex is expected to have more than 1.2 million square meters and will include an aqua park, a golf course, hotels, and congress centres.
The project has several planned phases: the first includes a shopping centre, an aqua park and leisure centre and Adventure Park, three hotels and a US-style casino with related amenities. Later phases will include conference facilities, a golf course, additional casinos and luxury apartments, as well.
The first stage should be launched at the end of 2010 and construction should last five years.
“At present, Slovakia has six million tourists annually; the complex should attract another five million tourists annually,” said the manager of Harrah’s Entertainment, Andrew Tottenham, which operates 54 casinos, hotels, conference centres and golf courses all over the world. SITA
