THE GOVERNMENT has failed to address pressing issues relating to the Roma community, corruption, cronyism and the judiciary, according to the latest survey carried out by the MVK polling agency, as reported by the TASR newswire.
MVK's Pavel Haulík pointed out that as many as 77.1 percent of those surveyed viewed government-sponsored efforts to tackle Roma issues as having no effect. Similar evaluations were made of efforts to eliminate corruption and cronyism (viewed as a failure by 67.7 percent of the respondents) along with those concerning the judiciary and prosecutors (66.8 percent), the consolidation of health care (62.2 percent), unemployment (55.6 percent), the quality of the education system (53.7 percent) and efficiency in public finance spending (52.2 percent).
Conversely, respondents said the current government’s biggest success is its handling of the economic recession. Here, nearly one quarter of the resondents considered Prime Minister Robert Fico’s cabinet to be “rather successful” in its efforts to remedy the effects of the crisis.
The poll was carried out between January 15-21 and surveyed the views of 1,106 adult respondents via face-to-face interviews. The respondents were asked to answer one question: how successful has the government been in tackling the following issues? They were able to choose from four options: rather successful, rather unsuccessful, failed completely with respect to the given issue, and has not even tried to tackle the issue.
