Prime Minister Robert Fico still tops the polls when it comes to people's confidence in politicians, according to the latest survey carried out by the MVK polling agency on a representative sample of 1,077 respondents between July 2 and 8.
Fico was chosen by 37.6 percent of respondents, followed by Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák with 19.8 percent and Most-Híd chairman Béla Bugár with 15.8 percent, the TASR newswire reported, quoting the poll. The fourth most trusted politician was President Ivan Gašparovič with 9.5 percent, followed by Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) caucus head Pavol Hrušovský with 9.1 percent, and Ordinary People and Independent Personalities (OĽaNO) chairman Igor Matovič with 8.7 percent. The top ten also included former premier Iveta Radičová (7.7 percent), New Majority-Agreement (NOVA) head Daniel Lipšic (7.4 percent), Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák (Smer party, 6.4 percent) and Parliamentary Speaker Pavol Paška (Smer), who garnered 5.8 percent.
Conversely, the respondents identified Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) leader Richard Sulík (24.9 percent) as the least trusted politician of all. Fico came in second (22.5 percent), ahead of former prime minister Mikuláš Dzurinda (18.9 percent), former Slovak National Party (SNS) leader Ján Slota (18.6 percent), Gašparovič (12.9 percent), Matovič (12.4 percent), KDH chairman Ján Figeľ (10.3 percent), Bugár (8.5 percent), Hrušovský (8.3 percent) and Kaliňák with 6.9 percent.
