THE STATE paid almost €193,000 to municipalities who were hit by various natural disasters in 2013, including landslides, local storms and torrential rains.
The money will be allocated from the state budget through the Interior Ministry, which will divide it among the villages that suffered damage due to natural disasters, the cabinet decided on January 8. The money should be delivered to the municipalities by January 22, the SITA newswire reported.
Hlohovec, one of the municipalities which asked to be compensated for damage caused by natural disasters, was hit in early May by flooding which followed an intensive rain, with rescue work costing almost €7,000.
The village of Podkonice in Banská Bystrica Region requested €4,000 to pay for rescue works after a windstorm hit the village in March 2013. The wind tore the roofs off of several homes. The situation was complicated by a subsequent snow storm. A state or emergency in the village lasted for one week, SITA wrote.
