NBS official welcomes single currency

Elena Kohutíková, vice-governor of the Slovak National Bank, said in an interview with German paper FAZ that she was in favour of introducing the common European currency in Slovakia as soon as possible following the country’s expected EU entry in 2004.

With inflation expected next year at 6.5-9 per cent, and the state budget deficit projected at 4.5 per cent of GDP in 2002, Slovakia remains some way from meeting the EMR’s key requirements.
