A total of 447 Slovak troops are spending Christmas away from home, with servicemen stationed within ISAF mission accounting for more than half of the total, TASR reported on December 25.
"We'll have a joint Christmas Eve dinner tonight, but this will have to be split into two parts so that both 'shifts' can have it," Zoltán Farkaš, one of 250 Slovak soldiers serving in Afghanistan told TASR.
Slovak troops in Cyprus were recently visited by Defence Minister Martin Glváč, who brought the 159 servicemen some smoked meat for sauerkraut soup as well as presents on December 21.
Two Slovak soldiers are due for an especially restless Christmas, as they're stationed in a battle zone in Syria.
"I personally don't think we'll have time to enjoy Christmas Eve at all. But we'll try to make sure we won't be on patrol in dangerous areas," said Peter Husár, one of the two Slovak soldiers.
