Nearly half of the unemployed Slovaks registered at job centres have not been able to find a new job for more than a year, according to the latest figures released by the Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Centre (ÚPSVaR), which reported that 48.03 percent, or 188,500 people out of 392,483 jobseekers registered at job centres in March had been jobless for more than a year, the TASR newswire wrote.
The largest number of long-term jobless people was recorded in unemployment black spots, with the highest number being in Prešov Region (44,469). Košice and Banská Bystrica regions followed closely behind with more than 40,000 long-term jobless. The unemployment rate reached 13.13 percent in March, a contraction of 0.03 percentage points from the previous month but an annual rise of 0.25 percentage points.
