JUSTICE Minister Daniel Lipšic is once again trying to incorporate corporate criminal liability into the Slovak legal system.
After parliament refused to approve corporate criminal liability as part of the new Penal Code, Lipšic prepared a draft bill addressing the issue, the SITA news agency reported.
At a press conference on September 2 he said that the law would protect honest businesses and punish dishonest ones. He believes he will persuade the MPs to back the law.
Lipšic has prepared two versions of the law. According to the first, corporations could be prosecuted for all crimes according to the Slovak Penal Code.
The second, more moderate alternative, limits criminal responsibility to cases concerning corruption, human trafficking, drugs, pornography, and money counterfeiting (i.e. in cases where EU and international agreements require it). If passed, the law would take effect July 1 of next year.
