The newly appointed Czech prime minister, Jan Fischer, will visit Slovakia on May 15 at the invitation of his Slovak counterpart, Robert Fico, according to a proposal approved by the Government on Wednesday, May 13.
The event will follow a tradition that the first visits made by the most senior Slovak representatives should be to the Czech Republic, and vice-versa, in order to confirm top-quality bilateral relations. This is despite Fischer’s very first visit actually having been to Brussels, as the Czech Republic currently holds the presidency of the European Union.
The talks will focus on reviewing bilateral relations, measures designed for the upcoming period, current European policy issues and the global economic crisis, the TASR newswire wrote.
Czech President Václav Klaus appointed a new government on May 8. The 17-member Cabinet emerged from a crisis after the previous cabinet of Mirek Topolánek lost a no-confidence vote. The key role of the current government, which is viewed as a caretaker one, is to lead the Czech Republic into early parliamentary elections in the first half of October. TASR
