THE EDUCATION ministry is working on a new law that would bring about "less drilling and more imagination and creativity to our schools," said Education Minister Martin Fronc.
However, the minister’s deputy, Frantisek Tóth, a member of the ruling New Citizen's Alliance, has already dismissed the draft law as “so bad it can’t be fixed”, according to the Pravda daily.
The law is designed to bring about much-needed reform in Slovak elementary and secondary education.
Slovakia's current education bill was approved in 1984 and has been revised at least 15 times since then, the daily SME reported.
Fronc says that the new law would mean more individual attention to pupils, especially for gifted students and slow learners.
Home schooling would also become an option, provided pupils are taught by a specially trained teacher. The law also promises better conditions for teachers.
