New help for border controls

The cabinet has approved a “National Schengen information system” project to strengthen controls on Slovakia’s border with Ukraine, expected to form part of the EU’s outer border after enlargement in 2004. The Slovak-Ukraine border in the past has attracted concern as a major route for smugglers of contraband and illegal migrants on their way to EU countries.
