SLOVAKIA will soon have a new left wing party, following a prepared merger of four non-parliamentary leftist parties.

The new bloc will be named the United Workers' Party of Labour (ZRSP), representatives of the four parties agreed at a meeting in Nové Zámky on September 21.

The new party will unite the Left Bloc of former politician Jozef Kalman, the ROSA party, led by Miroslav Kočnár, the B-Revolutionary Workers' Party, and the Independent Civic Party of the Unemployed and Damaged. All parties failed to reach a necessary quorum to enter parliament in the most recent national elections.

According to Ján Garai, leader of the latter mentioned party, the basic documents, as well as an itinerary of integration of the four parties, will be prepared by November 20 this year.
