Following a dispute between Russia and Ukraine earlier in January that left Slovakia without gas supplies from Russia for nearly two weeks, the country is set to amend its legislation governing emergency gas reserves in order to prevent any repetition of the situation, according to statements from gas utility SPP.
The government has ordered Economy Minister Ľubomír Jahnátek to submit a report estimating the damage arising from the gas crisis and to draw up a legislative bill regulating emergency reserves that is set to be fast-tracked in parliament, the TASR newswire reported.
The ÚRSO regulatory authority has been instructed to disclose the amount of emergency reserves in underground storage tanks between January 1-20. Chairman of the privately-controlled SPP management board Bernd Wagner has warned against the adoption of a new law on emergency gas reserves before the gas issue is subjected to a comprehensive analysis.
