SLOVAKIA'S newly elected MPs yesterday officially received their election certificates at the Bratislava Castle. Of the 150 MPs elected, 142 were present at the ceremony.
Among those missing were football referee Ľuboš Micheľ of the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ), who is currently at work in Germany at the World Cup. Ján Slota, the chairman of Slovak National Party (SNS), was also missing at the ceremony.
The new parliament includes 126 men and 24 women. The proportion of women in the parliament is thus 16 percent, the Pravda daily wrote.
Among the most experienced MPs with 16 years of service is the Christian Democratic Movement's (KDH) František Mikloško.
The new parliament will consist of representatives of six political parties that gained more than five percent in the June 17 general elections - Smer, SDKÚ, SNS, Hungarian Coalition Party, Movement for a Democratic Slovakia, and the KDH.
The average age of the new Slovak legislators is 49.
