PRESIDENT Ivan Gašparovič will probably convene the initial session of the new Slovak parliament on July 12.

The date is in accordance with the Constitution, which mandates the president convene the session within 30 days of the election. Gašparovič thinks the date will also provide enough time for the new government to be formed.

The president has asked Smer Chairman Robert Fico to lead talks on the creation of the new government.
