MILOSLAVA Zemková, the new general director of the public broadcaster Slovak Radio (SRo), refuses to pay golden handshakes to managers who will be laid off.

Her predecessor, Jaroslav Rezník, approved large severance packages for 11 people. The packages total 8 to 11 months' wages for the outgoing managers.

According to the SME daily, Zemková plans to renegotiate these contracts.

"We want to adjust the contracts so they are in line with the Labour Code and the collective agreement, and so they are not immoral towards the other [employees] as well," Zemková said.

So far, the new director has reached a deal with two people who were to get the generous severance pay. They agreed to withdraw from the original contracts.
