On September 27, the Hospodárske noviny daily reported that a new right-wing party might soon be formed in Slovakia. It is the brainchild of tax reform author Richard Sulík and his former colleague Peter Pažitný, who participated in drafting the health care reform during the previous government. Both men confirmed to the daily they were planning to form a new political party, but refused to elaborate, saying that "the time for presenting it to the media hasn't come yet".
According to the daily, the party will be backed by a powerful business group.
"This concerns powerful employers who don't agree with the steps of the Government of Robert Fico," the daily's source says.
The new party's main objective is said to be to "rescue" the tax reform introduced by the former government of Mikuláš Dzurinda. TASR
