The opening session of Slovakia’s new parliament will begin today, July 8, with the newly-elected parliamentary deputies taking the oath of office. The deputy’s oath will be also taken by eleven substitutes for members of Robert Fico's outgoing Cabinet – ten for Smer nominees and one for Education Minister Ján Mikolaj of the Slovak National Party (SNS).
Their mandate will last until the appointment of the new cabinet, when the members of the previous one take up their posts in parliament, the SITA newswire wrote. The current ministers will hand in their resignations after the opening session and will lead the ministries until their successors take over. Substitutes for members of the next cabinet will take up their parliamentary posts at the next parliamentary session. By taking their deputy’s oath, the members of parliament pledge their allegiance to the Slovak Republic and promise to fulfil their duties in the interests of its citizens.
