PRESIDENT Ivan Gašparovič greeted the new US ambassador to Slovakia, Theodore Sedgwick, on August 18. Sedgwick was sworn in to his post on July 4.

“I am extremely excited and privileged to be here in Slovakia to represent President Obama,” Sedgwick stated. “I had a cordial and productive conversation with President Gašparovič and Foreign Minister Dzurinda this morning on the wide range of issues upon which our nations cooperate. I believe that there is a nexus of opportunity in this new era of relations for increased cooperation between the Slovak Republic and the United States of America. Some of those opportunities include common goals in the fields of business and trade development, energy security, transparency and rule of law, and education and cultural exchange.”
