New US ambassador chosen

GEORGE W Bush has nominated Rodolphe M Vallee to succeed Ronald Weiser as the new United States ambassador to Slovakia, the White House website states.

Vallee is the Chairman and CEO of a chain of petrol stations in Vermont and a graduate of the Wharton School of Business. He is a long-term Republican party supporter and represents Vermont on the Republican National Committee.

In 2004 he was listed as a “pioneer” for President Bush’s re-election campaign. Pioneers were fundraisers who pledged to bring in at least $100,000 (€77,000).
