Representatives of non-governmental organizations think that open racism in the election campaign is an inadmissible violation of ethical, cultural and legal standards and that it is in direct conflict with the legal system of the Slovak Republic and international agreements, the SITA newswire wrote.
On the www.changenet.sk website they published an appeal to purify public life from manifestations of racism and other forms of political extremism. “With deep concern we registered open manifestations of racism and incitement to racial hatred that was committed by the Slovak National Party on its billboards.”
The statement continued that “Not even SNS representatives in their first responses denied the obvious fact that billboards show a member of the Roma minority as well as that the text is targeted to this ethnicity. The racist essence of this fact cannot be changed by the current effort of the SNS leadership to question ethnicity of the man depicted on billboards,” reads the appeal signed by approximately twenty persons from non-governmental organizations and intelligentsia.
